Last thursday I visited the MAFB: Sapeurs Edition. Sapeur comes from the acronym for the movement, SAPE, which stands for Societé des Ambianceurs et Personnes Élégantes (aka Kitendi-the religion/cult of the cloth).
There were 3 rounds in this battle. In the first the sapeurs just left their homeland and showed clothing that matched their background. In the second they were living in Europe for quite a bit and in the last round they went back to their homeland with influences of the west. It was a great spectacle.
There were sapeurs from Congo Kinshasa, Congo Brazzaville, Ghana, Surinam and The Dutch Antilles.
I had three favorites: Gebi, a female sapeur, Yannick and the sapeur with the italian name...(forgot his name) I had a wonderful night. And Yannick Landu, the guy with the tight green trousers won, well deserved. The price: a suit from Oger and shoes from Patta.
